Sad news today with the news that Kat Von D’s Sphynx kitten Valentine has died after Kat’s house has burned down. My heart goes out to Kat after her losing two Sphynxes in a year.
Love her or hate her, Kat Von D has done a great deal for the spreading of awareness of Sphynx Cats. Her recent purchase of Valentine from breeder Bella Remembered Sphynx in Clovis,Ca after the death last year of her Don Sphynx Ludwig was of great interest and had many people searching for more information on the breed. I hope Kat does not feel that the breed is jinxed for her, and gets another baby Sphynx in the future.

It looks like we finally, really and truly, may have the answer to all of Sphynx Cat Pierre’s skin issues and illness. Of course it has to be something fairly rare as he is a special guy and nothing simple or common for this young man. The head dermatologist at the University of Sydney Veterinary Hospital has made a tentative diagnosis of Erythema Multiforme. Tentative because like all immune related disorders, there is no test that will say “this is definitely it”
What they think has happened is because of the large amounts of antibiotics that he has taken in the last 12 months his immune system has been sent into a tailspin and caused this outbreak of nasty lesions. The more I read the more convinced I am that we have finally… finally found the culprit.
For poor Pierre this is good and bad news. Good in that the steroids he is on has reduced the amount of his outbreak and they are much less nasty looking, and now we are reducing the steroids and using cortisone creams to treat topically. He is back to his naughty self running, jumping and giving kisses. 2am is his favourite time of the day for doing laps of the house.
Bad in that this can quite possibly happen again as he has been on 6 different types of antibiotics and any one of them (or maybe more) might be the trigger. Thankfully, it does not seem to be more serious for him than the lesions and that is a blessing.
There is a small chance that the reaction was actually to the commercial foods we were feeding before he went on a raw diet. If so then he should not flare up again. If it is the antibiotics then we run the risk of him having another “attack” if he goes back on them for anything.
I find it a little bit ironic that I have 2 autoimmune diseases and now one of the cats has one too.

Kind of fitting that on the 100th post at Sphynx Cat Blog we announce the very first Sphynx Cat Podcast – The Naked Truth ! Check it out and tell me what you think by leaving me a comment over at the Sphynx Cat Podcast. There are show notes and a transcript if you are hearing impaired or prefer to read rather than listen.
I am also looking for suggestions for Sphynx related guest interviewees. If you know or want someone then drop a comment and I will do my best to get them on board.

I announced on Facebook recently I was thinking of getting another tattoo. One of my friends suggested I get something like the below. I love love LOVE it … alas i am looking to get a art nouveau-like viney thing that wraps around my wrists and onto my hand.
Thanks Julia!
